Cricket Wireless is so unethical, it should be a crime for them to be in business. If google would have let me put negative stars, I would. If anyone has them or is thinking about switching, I would think twice. And if you got bamboozled into their services, I’d recommend canceling that service asap… Well if you’re “allowed” to.
For the past 3 days, I have been trying to help my mom switch phone providers. Which I thought people were allowed to do, but apparently Cricket Wireless does not allow you to do that because they lock your phone. They have gaslit me for the past 3 days telling me that they haven’t locked her phone and that they don’t have the ability to do that. That the phone has been locked by the old provider AT&T and then it was locked Apple. Even though their own rep inside the physical Barberton Cricket told me that they lock all phones for 60 days and that you have to call the customer service line to get it unlocked again. Well I did my due diligence and called both AT&T and Apple.
AT&T is telling me that if they had locked the phone, then she wouldn’t have been able to have service at Cricket for the past 4 years. Which makes sense. And Apple is saying that they have not locked it and that it shows in the settings that Cricket has a lock on it. Kind of a weird coincidence, don’t you think.
So Cricket has been running me around in circles on the phone, gaslighting me, and pointing fingers at everyone but themselves for the past 3 days. Then let’s not forget the fact that they’ve “accidentally hung up” on me multiple times too. So I asked for a sup which of course the sup was on another call and would call me as soon as they get off the call; which to them would be like 30 mins. I’m still waiting for that callback over a day later. I called back at the 2 hour mark; since they were too busy to call me, and asked to wait on hold to talk to one since they don’t call back and keep “accidentally” disconnecting the call.
I had the wonderful opportunity to talk to Mary. No number or reference. Just Mary. Because of course out of the 8,000+ employees that work there, they will know exactly who I talked to by first name alone. It’s simply amazing that all of the employees know each other so well.
Now I know most will think that that is total bs, but rest assured even without any reference information except her name, everything is safely recorded on their side. And she is the highest person…. Well in that sector. There are no other bosses or anyone higher to talk to. It’s just her. God it must be so hard being the only boss there. I could never.
Mary did reassure me that she understood where I came from, but I have to “understand” that they have not done anything and it’s all AT&T’s fault and Apple of course. However, out of the kindness of her heart, she did offer to have me buy a new phone. Bless her little heart.
But when I asked if they would be paying for it since they locked my phone she advised well no, that I would be buying/upgrading to a new phone and she would kindly see what offers I qualified for. But of course with any upgrade I would have to stay with them for at least 6 months, since the phone would be locked to them. She said ONLY 6 months, but really I think she meant forever since once they lock phones, they apparently can’t unlock them; even if you own the phone outright.
So, my options are that I can keep paying Cricket to have service on my own personal phone that they locked. Or I can cancel my service and never be able to use that phone ever again since they locked it. Or I can buy a new phone from them and they will lock it, but ONLY for 6 months since they don’t “lock” phones. And then maybe after the 6 months I’ll be able to go elsewhere. Or I can just say screw it and buy a whole new phone with a different company.
This just reiterates that cheaper isn’t always better. And that I should have seen this as the scam it really is. Because once you go with them you can never leave.

I had a wonderful experience!! The ladies there, Marla and Reagan, were very helpful and treated us just like a good friend. Not only were they very funny and kind but they wouldn't hesitate to help us or change something. Thank you ladies!! I really do recommend this cricket.

Tuesday night I walked in to pay my phone bill, and was told that they could not take my cash. As I was waiting in line I watched him accept cash from a customer purchasing a new phone. I believe the gentlemen was the store manager. His name was Nick, and he reeked of cigarette. He was not in any kind of cricket attire. If I wouldn't have asked his name, I would have no idea he even worked there. The man told me to go to giant eagle in the plaza and get a prepaid gift card, or to use someone else's card. This place is extremely unprofessional and I have since switched my number to Boost Mobile. I don't understand the difference between paying my bill and purchasing a phone. Does anyone know if this is a company rule or is it just this location.... and why?

I moved five iPhones from AT&T to Cricket. The process could not have gone better. I worked with Katron in Barberton and cannot say enough good things about this Cricket representative. He was friendly and helpful. An extremely difficult customer came into the store as I was leaving and he handled her very professionally. I spoke with Cece on another visit to the store and also found her to be personable and helpful. Thanks, Cricket, for cutting my cell bills by more than half!
