So the food here I kind of expected it to be better but for the meal I had it was pretty decent. Unfortunately I must have caught them on a very hot day because it was pretty hot inside they did bring out many fans to help it cool down. I kind of been wanting to go to this place for quite some time so finally getting there and it not be in a certain expectation I had in my mind is very realistic and I will give this place a solid 8.3 out of 10

The food was excellent (fried dish dinner and a homemade cabbage dinner which, because they are so delicious and popular they were almost all sold out of), service was amazing as we were seated quickly and waited upon almost immediately, the food came out so quickly including the very airy, freshly baked bread (yum!), but But BUT...wait for it ..the ATMOSPHERE was SO BEAUTIFULLY decorated for the holidays and Christmas, it was as if you were walking through Wonderland itself! Each window seat booth area has its own large decorated area, and we were beyond blessed to have sat in the one with a GORGEOUS, elegant and beautifully-staged manger scene! We visited this restaurant today after visiting loved ones' graves at the cemetery across the street. Being seated here and counting our blessings for loved ones past and present was a very spiritual experience. And to top it off, everything was just perfect! Everything.

Completely forgot to take pics! However, I ended up taking some home so I'll snap a few ... may not look as good, but everything was delicious! It's funny, because I've lived about a mile from the restaurant for about 15 years. It was after Covid when everything started to open back up that my Mom and I realized all the salad bars were gone!!! I started searching and their salads popped up on a menu. Always knew it was there, but thought it was strictly catering or hall rental or something. No idea where I even got that thought from. Anyway, ordered two different salads to go... think a chopped and a Mediterranean, both with chicken. They were fresh, chicken was juicy, and was a good portion for the price. Since then we've been there several times. We order something different everytime and every single time, it's been great. Appetizers, chicken dinners, soup, salads, burgers, it's all been fresh, flavorful, and modesty priced.
And..... everytime the customer service was excellent. My Mom and I usually go to lunch to chat and spend some quality time together. That can frustrate servers sometimes. We have never felt rushed.
Today, we were there around noon. Two staff members greeted us, before we were even seated. The server was right there to get our drink order. We had an order of wings 1st.... crispy, flavorful, juicy. I ordered pita and hummus, and fish tacos. My Mom ordered the soup du jour, which was stuffed pepper soup. It smelled so good and she said it was delicious. She also ordered warm pita. Fish tacos were delicious. Two crisp shells, red cabbage slaw, salsa, avocado aoli, sour cream. Oh ya, and a full piece of cod in each one. They have a section on their menu where they have five or so tacos. You get two, but can add another one for $3. Will definitely be back to try the others, which included brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and I can't remember the others, but they all sounded good. A guy walked by our table and noticed I had some leftover, and brought me a to go container and bag. When I went to the counter to pay, three different team members acknowledged us, thanked us for coming, etc. I know it sounds basic, but I'm lucky if a cashier even acknowledges my existence. Most of them don't even give me the total. I have to ask!
Plus, I'm with my Mom, whom I'm protective of, like most of us are. I don't like to see her uncomfortable or someone being rude or dismissive to her. If she leaves happy, Im happy. I'm also very generous with tipping if I feel like she was taken care of. And, well, everyone at The Waterloo is as classy as they come!
So, get your behinds over there and enjoy yourselves!
Plus..... they have breakfast ALL DAY!

Breakfast today. I had the Wednesday/Thursday special, which consists of two eggs, bacon, and 1/2 waffle. Including coffee, it came to around $8.50. Great deal. Eggs were over easy, bacon crispy, and waffle warm with butter and syrup. The wait staff was friendly, and the place was not crowded at all for a Wednesday morning. Waterloo offers typical breakfasts of meat and eggs, omelets, and breakfast bowls. The daily specials are good. If you want steak and eggs, they offer that, too. Outside seating available.

Went today and was extremely disappointed. It’s definitely not the Waterloo restaurant I grew up with. My husband and I frequently go on Fridays for the fish. But this is the first time in a while. We’ve gone during the week. My husband‘s food was fine while mine on the other hand was awful. The first time it was brought out it was the wrong thing. The second time it was brought out it was roll on one side and cooked on the other. Our waitress treated us horrible and tried to rush us out the door. Extremely disappointed in the service. Also, I had to pay over five dollars for a tiny scoop of green beans and about eight french fries because they refused to take the meal off that I didn’t eat. She said well you did eat your french fries and your green beans so you have to pay. Overall, we paid $25 for one drink, my husband’s fish and my two small sides.
